A Fun and Simple Way to Discover Something New: Food Tours in Mallorca

Food Tours Mallorca

Looking for a fun way to discover Mallorca’s food scene without spending hours deciding where to eat? Food Tours Balearics offers a simple answer: let someone else do the planning and turn up hungry.

There’s something rather liberating about an evening when you don't have to scroll through endless restaurant reviews, compare menus or wonder whether you've chosen the right place.

Instead, imagine arriving at your first destination knowing that the evening has already been mapped out for you - with four different food and drink experiences, plenty of time to enjoy each one and a little adventure between them.

That’s the idea behind Food Tours Balearics, a self-guided culinary experience designed to introduce diners to some of Mallorca’s diverse and evolving food scene.

And having recently tried the Santa Catalina route myself, I can confirm that it is a fun and surprisingly easy way to discover somewhere new.

Just eat, drink, walk, chat and discover.

Palma Food Tours

What are Food Tours Balearics?

Food Tours Mallorca is a locally run food experience designed around exactly that idea. Their custom-built web app provides your itinerary, maps your route and even gives you interesting information about the places you pass along the way.

The tours currently cover Palma Old Town, Santa Catalina, Pollensa and Sóller, with Food Tours Balearics also offering experiences in Ibiza. The concept is deliberately self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own pace while your tables and food have already been arranged.

There is also something rather appealing about the lack of formality. You aren't following a guide with a flag, and you're not part of a large group being ushered from one restaurant to another. You simply turn up at each venue within your allocated time slot, give your name and booking number, and dinner takes care of itself.

The current Wine & Dine experience features four gourmet stops and four drinks, with the company specifically highlighting the freedom to discover the city at your own pace.

My Mallorca food tour experience in Santa Catalina

Our recent evening took us around Santa Catalina, one of Palma's most eclectic neighbourhoods and, unsurprisingly, a rather good place to explore through its food.

There were five of us, including three locals, and interestingly, even those of us who thought we knew the area discovered somewhere new.

Our first stop was Ombu Santa Catalina, starting at 6pm, where we were served a delicious fish taco with good-quality fish and a spicy sauce. It was a lively start to the evening and immediately demonstrated one of the best aspects of the experience: you get a taste of somewhere rather than committing to a full meal. One tip from our experience: although the tour includes house wine, beer or soft drinks, we decided to start the evening with G&Ts. We only realised at the end that Ombu was offering a Happy Hour cocktail before 7pm - so the drinks bill was considerably higher than necessary. If Ombu is your first stop it's definitely worth checking the drinks options.

There was an hour between courses - so we strolled over our next venue - Bankai, a stylish restaurant none of us had previously noticed. The timing was particularly memorable because a power cut struck just as we arrived. The team took it all in their stride, keeping us entertained until the electricity returned - and when our dish finally arrived, it was well worth waiting for.

We were served an oriental-style artichoke, beautifully prepared and surprisingly delicious. Even the members of our group who would rarely choose a vegetarian dish were impressed.

It was exactly the sort of discovery I'd hoped the tour would deliver.

From Mediterranean to Asian fusion

Our third stop was Nus, another restaurant that combines a variety of influences. We were warmly welcomed by the restaurant manager with homemade vegetable crisps and a dip before being served wine and a delicious oriental-style pork dish.

One of the pleasures of doing a progressive dinner like this is the conversation it creates. Between each course, we had time to walk, chat and compare notes about what we'd just eaten before arriving somewhere completely different.

And then came the surprise ending.

Cocktails through a telephone box

Our final stop wasn't another restaurant at all.

We entered Turpial Cocktail Bar through what looked like an old English telephone box and emerged into a rather exotic, atmospherically lit cocktail bar.

Instead of dessert, we were offered either an Espresso Martini or a Porn Star Martini. The latter arrived with considerable theatricality, served in bird-shaped glasses - with the waiter adding in bubbles floating over the top with a bubble gun.

Was it a little sweet for me? Yes.

Was it fun? Absolutely.

And watching the boys in our group enjoy the theatrical presentation was worth the price of admission!

The cocktail bar proved to be a playful way to end the evening and gave the tour a welcome element of surprise.

Why I liked this Mallorca food experience

For me, one of the best things about the Food Tours Balearics concept was the pace.

There was around an hour at each destination, meaning we never felt rushed. The walks between venues gave us time to chat, digest what we'd just eaten and enjoy the atmosphere of Santa Catalina before arriving somewhere completely different.

And that's what makes this more than simply a way of getting dinner.

It's an opportunity to discover places you might otherwise overlook.

By the end of the evening, we'd discovered two restaurants and a cocktail bar that were new to us, while experiencing a familiar Palma neighbourhood from a completely different perspective.

Meet the women behind Mallorca Food Tours

Behind the business are Emily and Michelle, two food-loving friends who fell for Mallorca's flavours, beauty and local spirit. After years of exploring the island, meeting chefs and discovering memorable restaurants, they decided to turn that passion into a business.

Their aim is particularly appealing to anyone who likes to get beneath the surface of a destination. They say they want to introduce people to the kinds of restaurants they might not necessarily find through the usual tourist searches, while creating experiences that feel warm, relaxed and local.

The original Palma Old Town tour launched in November 2023, followed by Santa Catalina in January 2025. As the concept has grown, so has the business, with their wider Taste & Travel Mallorca brand now offering fully curated multi-day experiences incorporating accommodation, transfers and personalised itineraries.

It's an interesting evolution from a simple food tour into a broader way of experiencing Mallorca through its people, places and flavours.

A great Mallorca experience for visitors - and locals alike

One of the things I particularly like about experiences such as this is that they aren't just for tourists.

Mallorca residents can be just as guilty of sticking to their favourite restaurants and familiar neighbourhoods.

Food Tours Balearics offers an easy excuse to try somewhere different.

Groups are limited to a maximum of ten people, with each booking having its own private table. Solo travellers are also welcome, and often the tables will chat amongst each other whilst walking between each venue. The company additionally runs Social Dinner Club evenings for those specifically looking to meet new people.

And because restaurant selections change according to the season and day of the week, returning guests can potentially enjoy a completely different culinary journey next time, as well as differing regions.

The verdict

For me, the real appeal of Food Tours Balearics wasn't simply the food. It was the combination of good food, new discoveries, walking, conversation and spontaneity.

We were introduced to two restaurants we'd never visited, enjoyed returning to the others, and finished the evening somewhere none of us expected to find ourselves.

It felt less like going out for dinner and more like having a little culinary adventure around Palma.

And sometimes, particularly when you're on holiday - or simply living on an island that has so much to discover - you don't need another restaurant recommendation. You just need someone else to do the planning.

Food, discovery and a slower way to experience Mallorca

At Mallorca Wellness Living, we're interested in the idea that wellness isn't only about yoga retreats, spa days and green juice.

Sometimes wellness is simply about getting out, walking somewhere beautiful, sharing good food with friends and allowing yourself to experience something new.

Food is such an important part of Mallorca's culture, and experiences that encourage us to slow down, explore on foot and connect over a shared meal can be a wonderful way to experience the island.

Food Tours Balearics combines all of those elements in a wonderfully uncomplicated way. Someone else does the planning. You just turn up hungry and see where the evening takes you.

And sometimes, that's exactly what you need.
